I love new locations. I had never shot at this beach before and am so glad that this couple requested it for their engagement photos. It is a special place for them which is always my preference when I do engagement shoots. I find that if the location has meaning for you it always translates emotionally into the photos.  It was cool and cloudy and moody with no sunset to be had whatsoever...which mattered not at all.

While editing the photos I just really started loving the black and white for this one...I am a little obsessed with black and white at the moment. I have another couple who is doing their entire wedding album in black and white right now and it is going to be spectacular.

We had such a ball doing this shoot that I can't wait to shoot the wedding at the fabulous Bel-Air Bay Club in the fall...in both color and black and white of course!

So you may remember this gorgeous couple from their engagement shoot in Manhattan Beach here. We had such a fun day doing that shoot that I knew the wedding would be amazing. I have to say that, first of all, how much do I love a groom that wants to shoot pictures with the guys in a laundromat and liquor store? Plus, Sarah Porcaro at Love in LA Events did such a beautiful job with all of the delicious details that it was an absolute delight to capture. One of my favorite moments came at the very end of the night (which is why I ALWAYS stay 'till the end...I don't want to miss a thing). Billy and the guys got up on stage and did a full on performance, topped off by him serenading Terren stage side...how can you top that ending to a perfect day!

It's back! Now that my wedding and portraits seasons have let up for a few months, I am happy to launch workshop season, 2012! My next workshops are:

COST: $99
which includes the class, lunch and an extensive 18 page workshop handout.

THE ONE-DAY PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Finally got that cool camera? Splurged for a fabulous digital SLR? Getting
frustrated because you don't really know how to take advantage of all of its
features? Do you just want to learn a few simple techniques to take amazing
pictures of your kids?  Want to shoot in a mode other than Auto?

This four-hour basics session will drastically improve the relationship you have with your
camera - not to mention the photos you take with it and will teach you how to capture amazing moments of your kids in a variety of situations!

The workshop will cover all the basics and beyond, including:

1. Fundamentals: How to use your camera and take advantage of aperture, shutter
speed and ISO speed adjustments to get those really amazing shots.

2. Go toward the light! After all, it is all about lighting, so we will learn
simple tricks to find magical light that differentiates an artistic photograph
from a snapshot.

3. Finding your Artistic Eye: We talk at great length about composition and finding your own personal style and using the camera to not just take a picture, but rather tell a story and capture both beautiful images and emotional content.

4. Tips and Tricks: Learn to apply all of the above to your real life photo situations: how to get the best shots at ballet recitals, basketball games, indoor and outdoor sports, group shots at large family gatherings and whatever else you can come up with!

I took Laurie's workshop after buying my first DSLR camera. Laurie's presentation and hands-on workshop really helped me get a grasp on the different setting on my camera. She communicates well, takes her time explaining some of the challenging concepts like aperature and shutter speed. I rarely put my camera in auto mode anymore since taking this class. Thanks, Laurie!

I have a special place in my heart for this wedding and this couple. You see, I get 95% of my wedding clients by referrals from my other clients or guests at previous weddings I have done. I had the absolute pleasure of shooting an incredible wedding on the banks of the Hudson River on 7.7.7 for my dear clients (and now friends) PJ and Jaime.  John was the best man at that wedding so I was so thrilled when John and Rebecca called me to shoot their wedding at the spectacular Coquelicot Vineyard in Solvang. It just felt like I was going to be photographing a special day for old friends, even though Rebecca and I had never met! When we did get together the three of us just clicked and I knew it was going to be an unforgettable day.

It was all perfectly planned by the amazing Jennifer Curti of J Coordination and Special Events. And this group redefined fun and party...as you can see, PJ went above and beyond with his best man speech by having some special guest performers. It was an incredibly special day with so many unforgettable moments.

I was also beside myself to shoot a wedding with so many delicious details...this one is just too fabulous for words - I will let the images speak for themselves!
